Radioactive Reunions

October 28, 2025 - With Halloween just around the corner, we've arrived at the end of our taphophile travels. And you'll be glad to know that I saved the best - or rather - the creepiest, cemetery story for the last.

In its simplest definition, radioactive refers to something that emits, or is capable of emitting, energy. In my visit to the Pleasant Green Cemetery in Magna, Utah, I learned a thing or two about radioactivity, energy, and interacting with departed spirits.

We all have energy - both positive and negative. What can you do to ensure that the energy you are spreading into the world will have a positive impact on the lives of others?

  1. Check your negative energy at the door. While everyone needs a friend they can vent with, most people probably don't need to hear about everything going wrong in your life.
  2. Look inside and find your unique positive energy.
  3. Once you find it, don't keep it to yourself! Let your luminescent light flow freely.
  4. That being said, recognize that at times you may need to guard even your positive energy, not wasting it on people or situations that will tear you down.
  5. As often, and in as many places as possible, let your light shine so that others will see the goodness that still exists in the world.

So, go and have a fun and safe Halloween with those you love. But don't be surprised if a bit of that energy from the other side finds you. After all, light really does attract light.

Iron Rod Press Newsletter Vol. 1, No. 17 Swallowed Up October 21, 2025 - What do you think of when you see the phrase "swallowed up"? My mind tends to go to the Bible story of Jonah and the three days he spent in the belly of whale. But that's probably not going to be a reality for any of us. What then could it mean for you and me in our daily lives? Being "swallowed up" in this sense more than likely refers to being overwhelmed by responsibilities, tasks, unresolved conflict, or uncertainty....

Iron Rod Press Newsletter Vol. 1, No. 16 A Chair of Charity October 14, 2025 - As followers of Jesus Christ, we are to "mourn with those who mourn and comfort those who stand in need of comfort." While this may feel like a simple instruction, some times we just don't know what to say. Here are a few thoughts that might help. While you may feel uncomfortable approaching someone in mourning, the worst thing to do is to do nothing. See past your discomfort to reach out to comfort them. If...

Iron Rod Press Newsletter Vol. 1, No.5 1 Talking Trees October 7, 2025 - Have you ever heard of the "Wood Wide Web"? No, that's not a typo. This phrase refers to an underground root system that allows trees to share resources and communicate with each other. They should have added another "w" word - "Wow!" - in that reference because that's exactly what I thought when I first heard of this concept. If trees can share resources and communicate either above ground (as this week's video...
