Help Your Posterity Walk in Your Footsteps

March 3, 2026 - This whole series has been about walking in the footsteps of your ancestors. But have you ever thought that when you show your children or grandchildren, or nieces and nephews, where you lived or worshipped, what you ate, or introduced them to unique aspects of your story, you are helping them to walk in YOUR footsteps?

This was a startling revelation to me recently, that you and I have a responsibility to pass along our stories and experiences to the next generation.

Will they appreciate what we share? Maybe not. I recall times when I took my children to places from my past. They weren't all that impressed, to be honest.

But somehow that didn't matter. One day, I believe they will be grateful to know a bit more about me than they knew before.

This coming weekend, March 5-7, is RootsTech. It's not too late to get involved. So, here is a recap of what we've talked about over the past couple of months.

  1. Register at www.rootstech.org. You can attend in person or participate online.
  2. Explore the free online classes that could help you in your search for ancestors.
  3. Be sure and opt-in for Relatives at RootsTech and look for distant cousins that live where you want to travel.
  4. Check out videos of keynote speakers or past presentations.
  5. Sign into your account at FamilySearch.org and see where your heart leads you. Who are the ancestors who want you to know more about them?

As a lover of all things family-history related, please email me with your questions or experiences. I get just as excited about other peoples' discoveries as I do my own.

And if the next generation doesn't have the same addiction (because that's what it can easily become!), that's okay. As they sense your love for family past, they can't help but feel your love for them in the present.

So until next time, always keep your eye on the One that loves you most. Ciao!

Iron Rod Press Newsletter Vol. 2, No. 7 Connect with Cousins February 17, 2026 - I met a woman recently who, through some modern-era polygamists in her extended family, had over 500 first cousins! That made my mere 30 pale in comparison. But then I remembered that when I opted-in to be a part of Relatives at RootsTech last year, I had over 50,000 cousins! To be fair, these weren't first cousins, but it allowed me to connect with distant cousins who could help me on my trip to Scotland a year...
