"Curiouser and Curiouser"

May 26, 2026 - It took me a quarter of a century to be curious enough to visit the Gilgal Gardens in Salt Lake City. Now I'm spreading the word.

Thomas Child knew his garden would not be for everyone. And he was okay with that. “You don’t have to agree with me,” he once explained. “You may think I am a nut, but I hope I have aroused your thinking and curiosity.”

As far as I'm concerned, he has accomplished his goal.

What keeps us from being curious? Or maybe the better question is, what can we do to increase out level of curiosity?

  1. Start by understanding the benefits of curiosity. From greater levels of happiness and empathy, curiosity can also improve our health and strengthen our relationships. (For more information, seehttps://greatergood.berkeley.edu/article/item/six_surprising_benefits_of_curiosity.)
  2. Look beyond the familiarity. Do you tend to go to the same restaurants, visit the same vacation spots, or have the same daily routine? Be willing to mix it up from time to time!
  3. When you hear about some place new, don't just dismiss it. Prob for more information.
  4. Do you have a friend who is always trying new things? Ask them for suggestions of places you can visit.
  5. Be brave. It may take some courage to try something new or change up your routine.

Alice of Alice in Wonderland," found herself being "curiouser and curiouser" as she wandered in her new and strange surroundings. So, be like Alice, and discover the world around you in a whole new way!
