It's a Small World

June 30, 2026 - It is estimated that the title of this week's newsletter, taken from the song at the center of the Disney ride of the same name, has been played over 50 million times since first introduced at the New York World's Fair in 1964. That's one long continuous loop! Whether its lyrics and catchy tune brings back happy memories or causes you to cringe, you can't ignore its impact.

The song's theme of inclusion and world peace has resonated for over half a century. This week, however, I want to focus on the blessings of the smaller things of life, that bigger is not necessarily better.

  1. Some may say that "everything's bigger in Texas," but, does that mean that everything's better in Texas? Not to slight the Lone Star state in any way, but doesn't Rhode Island, the smallest state, have as much to offer the world?
  2. Big box stores are all the rage. But there is something about buying local that builds trust and confidence. Is there a small store in your town or neighborhood that you haven't visited before?
  3. If "good things come in small packages," what packages have you been dismissing because you thought they held no value for you?
  4. "Don't sweat the small stuff" means to not let the little things of life get you down. But is there a way to let the little things of life raise you up?
  5. Lastly, the scriptures teach that God speaks in a "still, small voice." What can you do to hear His voice more frequently?

We can't ignore the big things in life, but we can make sure that we don't miss the little things either. It is, after all, a small world out there!

Iron Rod Press Newsletter Vol. 2, No. 31 When Pigs Fly August 4, 2026 - The term "when pigs fly" refers to something that will never happen - an impossible event or outcome that will never occur. But as we are told in Luke 1:37, "For with God, nothing shall be impossible." What exactly does that mean and how can we experience the impossible in our lives? Another helpful phrase is the fact that failing to plan is planning to fail. While some positive outcomes may occur in our lives without...

Iron Rod Press Newsletter Vol. 2, No. 30 Looking for Miracles July 28, 2026 - One of the great stories of the migration of the Latter-day Saint pioneers occurred in the summer of 1848. After planting their crops and planning for an abundant harvest, crickets invaded the fields, devouring the tender plants that would never grow to fruition. And so they prayed. And God sent a miracle in the form of seagulls who ate the crickets and saved the day. Do you need a miracle in your life? I think we...

Iron Rod Press Newsletter Vol. 2, No. 29 Pulling Together July 21, 2026 - Life is challenging. No doubt about it. Early handcart pioneers learned that two people walking side by side could carry the load much easier than just one. But what if you don't have someone special in your life right now - someone that can help you carry your life load? Let's look at some ways you can yoke yourself to others to make life easier for everyone. Do you belong to a church or civic organization? How can you...
