Looking for Miracles

July 28, 2026 - One of the great stories of the migration of the Latter-day Saint pioneers occurred in the summer of 1848. After planting their crops and planning for an abundant harvest, crickets invaded the fields, devouring the tender plants that would never grow to fruition.

And so they prayed. And God sent a miracle in the form of seagulls who ate the crickets and saved the day.

Do you need a miracle in your life? I think we all do. President Russell M. Nelson taught that we should seek and expect miracles in our life. But how exactly can we do that? Let's consider some ideas that will help bring these blessings into your life.

  1. First and foremost is to remember that you are a child of God. He loves you and desires your happiness.
  2. While the pioneer story is a dramatic one, miracles come in all shapes and sizes. What miracles have already seen today - no matter how insignificant it might seem?
  3. Seeking miracles means putting our trust in God and His ability to answer our prayers. Have you prayed for the miracle you need?
  4. Trusting in God also means trusting that He knows what is best for us. How can you develop greater faith in Him?
  5. With greater faith, we can expect miracles - even if they look different than we thought or come later than we planned.

So seek and expect miracles in your life and you will receive them.

But as we are told in Luke 1:37, "For with God, nothing shall be impossible." What exactly does that mean and how can we experience the impossible in our lives? Another helpful phrase is the fact that failing to plan is planning to fail. While some positive outcomes may occur in our lives without...

Iron Rod Press Newsletter Vol. 2, No. 29 Pulling Together July 21, 2026 - Life is challenging. No doubt about it. Early handcart pioneers learned that two people walking side by side could carry the load much easier than just one. But what if you don't have someone special in your life right now - someone that can help you carry your life load? Let's look at some ways you can yoke yourself to others to make life easier for everyone. Do you belong to a church or civic organization? How can you...

Iron Rod Press Newsletter Vol. 2, No. 28 Are We There Yet? July 14, 2026 - Does this title make you cringe at taking a road trip with small children? Or does it make you smile as you remember adventures in the past? No matter how long a road trip, there is no getting around this question. Even as adults, we frequently wonder when the trip will be over and we arrive at our destination. And I'm not just talking about literal road trips, but also life's challenges when we can't see our final...
