Turkey Greetings

November 24, 2026 - *Full confession - the majority of this week's newsletter is from a year ago. While I am feeling quite grateful this month (re-read the last two newsletters), I'm also feeling lazy. So, why not re-use what worked well 12 months ago! Enjoy!

If you live in the United States and are celebrating Thanksgiving this week, what is on the menu? A quick AI search says that 46 million turkeys will be eaten this year by 88% of the population.

While there's no evidence that turkey was served at that first Thanksgiving dinner, what we do know is that Benjamin Franklin thought enough about the bird that when compared to the eagle, the turkey was “a much more respectable Bird, and withal a true original Native of America...He is besides, though a little vain & silly, a Bird of Courage.”

So if you are vain and silly at times, but full of courage, you are in good company. Even knowing this, we may feel we are inferior to others. If that's the case, ponder these thoughts from scripture to remember who you really are.

  1. Romans 8:16 - "The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God."
  2. Galatians 3:26 - "For in Christ Jesus you are all sons of God, through faith."
  3. 1 John 3:1 - "Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God."
  4. 2 Corinthians 6:18 - "I will be a Father to you, and you will be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty."
  5. John 1:12 - "But as many as received [Jesus Christ], to them gave he power to become the [children] of God, even to them that believe on his name."

So, whether you feel like a turkey or a peacock, you are a child of God and worthy of love, respect, and kindness - especially from yourself! Never forget your divine origin!
